Diversity and Media Toolbox

The Diversity and Media Toolbox is a comprehensive suite of resources for teachers, students, law enforcement representatives and the general public, that explores issues relating to stereotyping, bias and hate in mainstream media and on the Internet. The program, which includes professional development tutorials, lesson plans, interactive student modules and background articles, is divided into two distinct but complementary topic areas: media portrayals of diversity and online hate.

Emergent Literacy in Mathematics

Currently, the LTK assists students in developing foundational skills for reading, writing, inquiry, and self-regulatory learning strategies. But to this point, the LTK has been missing an important pillar of early childhood learning: the development of numeracy skills.
The CSLP is pleased to announce that in partnership with LEARN, the English Montreal School Board, and two French school boards, (CSRN and CSDM), work has begun on the development of an evidence-based bilingual tool. Emergent literacy In Mathematics (ELM)/Orienter la réussitedes mathématiques émergentes (ORME) will be designed to develop foundational competencies in mathematics using engaging, interactive multimedia.

Canadians for a Safe Learning Environment

Is your school as Safe Learning Environment?

Children are uniquely vulnerable to toxins and hazards in their environments. Our schools, their condition and the products and practices used in them, can influence children’s health, well being and educational outcomes.

We love our children more than anything, and they are our country’s greatest resource.

Whether you are a concerned parent or teacher, a professional designing a new school, a principal or a maintenance manager, CASLE offers two decades of experience and resources to help solve problems, and to show how healthy school environments benefit students and staff.

Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Health Report on Child Obesity

Childhood obesity has both immediate and long-term negative health outcomes, and is strongly linked to various chronic conditions, including hypertension, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, gallbladder disease, stroke, and certain types of  cancer, including breast and colon cancer. Addressing the factors that contribute to obesity early in a person’s life helps to reduce the likelihood of being overweight or obese in adolescence and adulthood. Health promotion and chronic disease prevention are key in reducing demand on health services and maintaining the sustainability of Canada’s health system.

In September 2010, Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Health and/or Health Promotion/Healthy Living (Ministers of Health) strengthened their resolve to work on the Pan-Canadian Healthy Living Strategy by endorsing a Declaration on Prevention and Promotion (Declaration), committing to make the promotion of health and the prevention of disease, disability and injury a shared priority for action.

Leadership Strategy for Resilience

The Leadership Strategy was developed as a key outcome of The Learning Partnership initiative that began in 2006, with a national conference to examine the issue of Students at Risk.  As participants discussed the factors that put 30% of Canadian children at risk and exchanged information about successful ways to intervene, one question kept surfacing:  Why do some at-risk youth defy the odds?
